#FridayFiction : You are cheating on me, arent you darling?

The TV screamed with the frenzy that is usually associated with an Indo-Pak cricket match while Kushal mouthed his frustration at the dropped catch.

Ananya sat quietly by his side, tapping away on her laptop, keeping a furtive eye on her husband. She didn’t want him to see what she was doing.

“What on earth are you typing away? Why aren’t you watching the match?”, he sulkily belted out.

“You are chatting with Akash?” he caught a glimpse of the chat window. “That b@#$%^& doesnt spare me a minute when I call him; nor does he ever call me back. But it seems he has all the time in the world to chat with you!”

“Is there something going on between the two of you?” Kushal was at his nastiest best.

Tears filled her eyes while she looked at him hurt and mentally berated herself for doing this now. But this was the only time Akash was online and she really needed to outline the plan for Kushal’s surprise bday party. He was his best friend and knew all the other friends who should be invited.

She just couldn’t understand her husband’s meanness to her for talking to his friends; come to it any of her male friends too.

He had been so sweet, caring and understanding just six months back when they had first met via the matrimonial website. He had charmed her with his meaningful gestures and literally swept her off her feet during the courtship.

Post marriage, he had metamorphosed into this jealous, bitter and angry man who wouldn’t allow her any time to herself. God forbid if she was on the phone when he was in the house.

But the straw that broke the proverbial camels back was when she had met Akash (his chaddi buddy) and instantly hit it off with him for he was one person who went out-of-the-way to make her feel comfortable in the entire group of Kushal’s friends. His wit and helpful nature had ensured her first dinner at home had been successful. And the compliments had helped boost her confidence to no end.

Only it had all made Kushal most unhappy with her; only her. When he had first accused her of an affair with Akash, she thought he was joking.

But he wasnt! He was insane with rage and ranted for next two hours about how he always suspected her character was not up to the mark. He had done a favour to her by marrying her. How many men would want to marry a woman like her – a divorce’!!!! Plus the question mark over her fertility as at 38, she hadn’t conceived even once. And this is how she repaid him?

Yes he was livid!

Ananya’s world came crashing down!

This was the man she thought wonderful and charming? Where was that gracious man she had met? How is it that she hadnt seen this side of him?

Is love really blind that she hadn’t been able to see that he didn’t respect her? And that’s what this was all about for Akash was gay and openly so!

  1. Congratulations on your debut, Shalini! And what an amazing first step into the fiction world this is. Well done!
I mentally slapped Kaushal a few times, btw :))
    Keep writing!

    1. Hey Mayuri – thank you so much! Such high praise coming from you. I am such a fan of your fictional work – thank you thank you!

  2. Wow.. that sounds terrible on the guy’s part. I am sure she would now take a stand and walk out of the marriage. no way someone needs to stay with a person who has little respect for you.
Is there a part 2? is it a series that you are writing shalz?
all the best for dailychatter .. will be reading you daily 🙂

    1. Hey Chandni – loved your praise- thanks so much. You have no idea how encouraging this is. Yeah planning a series – its an interesteing mix of this woman’s life before and after marriage. Stay tuned. I hope to have 31 stories in during the blogchatter daily chatter

  3. That was so well written and a story I wanted to read more. People are insecure and those pre-nuptial days are too less to find out who the person behind so many masks.

    1. Hi Parul – I am super happy to hear your words of praise. Yes its true the dating game, courtship periods are now not enough to figure out the other person – I guess its the way of the intuition more now.
Stay tuned for more as I am writing fiction for the 31 days of October for the Ultimate blogging contest via Blogchatter.

  4. Great start dear. I am a big fan of relatable fiction. Stories about things that are present in our daily lives but we just keep ignoring them.
Looking forward to next parts 🙂
