#ThankfulThursday – My top five quirks that make me, Me!!!!

Thankful-thursdays-five-women-quirks-that-I-am-Thankful-for-woman-Womensday

When I saw this prompt to express gratitude for five womanly quirks that I am thankful for, I grinned in sheer delight as this is so-me-kinda thing! So of course, I had to scribble out a few lines to satisfy the devil in me. So here goes folks, an uncut unabridged version of my fallacies, oh I meant Quirks!!! 😉

My need to feed folks is legendary

I have friends who start to introduce me with dishes they have eaten at my house, rather than by my name. Yeah, I love being a perfect good hostess who likes to equally get drunk and fed as her guests. My thing is to make sure no one gets up and I love filling up plates, handing them out. And I pack doggy bags too, once the meal is done with. I also love to bake or rather experiment with baking. Since I don’t have a sweet tooth, guess where it all goes? Yup – to all my friends and foes – alike! 😉

My hair-raising antics

I grew up yearning for curly ringlets; instead have waterfall straight hair which is so fine and silky that even after sleeping all night with rollers, they remain ramrod straight next morning. So I have tried to compensate this by experimenting with hairstyles and hair colours, much to the chagrin/amusement of my many hair dressers!! Uneven layers, lopsided chopping of hair, shorn from the nape up and long in front – all a nightmare to grow into an even state again. Colours from bubblegum pink, magenta, plum to shades of reds!!! The affair continues to date and probably will, till the day I die. Next on the agenda is a perfectly shorn off head like a monk!

My love of bare-my-back sari blouses

This quirk is the bane of my mother’s nightmares while I absolutely revel in showing off my back which is why I also deigned to have a tattoo embellished upon (quite strategically, so that it peeps out ). I have got quite a collection of halter and other deep back ones with colourful threads, beads and what nots; which swing with gay abandon when I walk! Much to my mom’s horror, I desecrated the heavier silk saree blouses too in the same vein. But…. but I have not gone the whole nine yards as in a completely backless blouse – that would take a whole load of guts for me to feel comfy doing! Lets see if by 2025 I achieve that! 😉

My penchant of picking a saree on almost every travel to a new Indian region

I cannot resist our gorgeous textiles, especially hand looms/ hand-made ones and more so when it comes to sarees. So I have a saree from Kashmir, Benares, Kerala, Bangalore, Andhra, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Pondicherry etc which range from tussars, silks, chiffons, cottons and Georgette with threadwork to tie & dye to marbling to zaris to kalamkari…………….. It’s another matter that most of them are unworn as I love collecting sarees more than wearing 😉

My “zid” to wear a nose ring

When I expressed a desire to have my nose pierced, my mom was aghast! “Why do you want to do something like that? A nose ring will not suit you.” But I wanted it as I find it very exotic and sensous on a woman. Conspiring with one of my bhabhi, I managed the feat. And then began a search for the perfect nose ring – to date I have over a dozen pins and rings collected from jewellers across cities as its very difficult to find extraordinary designs in nose pins, ready-made. Someday I shall show them all off in a post… And it’s never bothered me to find out whether it suits me or not – I think its awesome and that’s it!!

  1. Your nose ring looks cute in you!
Well, the grass is greener on the other side, right?
I have curls and I wish I had the straightness of your hair. I take almost half an hour to forty mins to do my hair ( iron them straight) when I gotta go for any event!

    1. Ha ha; tell me about the grass! Gawd!! I wish I had a penny for every time somebody mentioned the grass – I would be richer than Bill gates right now 😉
Oh my god why do you straighten your hair? Thats a sin! I wish I could exchange hair with you, I would do it in a hearbeat Z!!!

  2. You absolutely have me on that straight hair catastrophe. I adore those lovely curls but my hair defies me every time and falls back straight! It’s only after coming to Bangalore and thanks to its horrible water my hair now has become a wavy frizzy mess. I love the backless blouses too (pssst.. I am not fitting in my earlier ones). And about feeding people – we have so much in common only i have 32 set of sweet teeth! Wonderful post. Thanks for linking up with #ThankfulThursdays

    1. Look at how we have made the hard water the silver lining cos of how its treating our hair!!! Quite the opp of what other peeps bemoan when they talk of this! 😉
Its great to hear we have shared quirks for I really loved meeting up with you – you are so warm and twinkling in personna! Hugs babes!

  3. These are fun and likeable quirks! I share your nose ring love as I had one for about 8 years until I had to take it out just recently for a surgery. 🙁

    1. Oh I hope surgery went off well; all good with you!!
Thank you for liking my quirks and yes the noserings are more of a fetish now 😉

  4. Loved all your quirks.A vaker and great cook who wears backless choli with chiffon sarees ,has a tattoo and wears a nose pin with silky straight hair!Just wow to all your quirks.Thank you so much for writing with us for #ThankfulThursdays

    1. Reading your comment made me sound so cool – thank you so much Amzee!!! Now if indeed I was this wholesome image of quirky naughty self 😉

  5. OMG!!! I totally love your quirks. Most of them resonate with me. I can’t wait to see your nose pin/ring collection. I’m a sucker for the same. Just that I have not found the right ones yet. Please write that post asap.
Yes, I also craved curly, wavy hair while I was growing up (I had poker straight hair too), so I got it permed a few times, and guess what happened, I lost a lot of hair in the process.

After Aarshia was born my hair started turning wavy- 8 years back and then the Gurugram water and all the hair touch ups made it frizzy and dry. I’m not complaining too much, as it gives my hair volume and I have the much-desired curls. But wish they would be soft curls like Goldilocks :p We can’t seem to get enough of anything, do we?

And let’s not go the saree and backless blouse way- I just love them!! have a few halter neck and off shoulder dresses too.
You are quite a woman, quirky chirpy Shazy <3

    1. Soul sistah – gimme five Nattie 😉
I think I dont want peeps letching at my collection; nazar lag gayee toh!!!!? Come over and I will show it to you; rather model it for you!! 😉
Its like looking at the silver lining when you talk of hard water turning the hair frizzy n giving it volume. I also want the Goldilock curls – the ringlets – sigh!!!!
We should put on our party dresses and head out one evening to let our hair down (cant get down further than this but still…. ) 😉
A big hug to you and a bigger one to Mayuri for introducing us!

  6. I can’t wait to see your nose ring/pin collection! The thought of wearing sarees send a chill up my spine and I am so glad for my curly hair:)
Hope to bite into a slice of one of your cakes soon!
Thank you for writing for #ThankfulThursdays , Shalini:)

  7. You are quite a unique person. I loved reading the post and getting to know some more about you. You seen to be a fun person going by description of your quirks 😀 Out of all, I share with you one thing and that is the Jog falls falling straight down the head. Tie them, roll them, do anything with them but once you let them be on their own, they will just fall down straight. Quite the neighbour’s envy wala case but owner’s pride? It’s not the case. I am just fine with them.

    1. Ha ha ha…. Jog Falls – hilarious Anamika!! Thanks, shall use this reference for myself in the fuuture. You are right about the envy part as I get it all the time from others that how they wish they had my hair!!! 😉
Thank you for the compliments and liking my quirky self- yes I believe in wearing my heart on the sleeve, even tho it gets hurt a lot in the process. But this is who I am and I love it!
      Cheers

  8. Hey Shallz, Its so nice to know about the quirks of you. But let me tell you, Nose ring suits you so well. It complements your face cut and smile. Ahh, I hate my hair for not being straight. It so difficult to choose a haircut. How I wish to have smoothly falling hair.

    1. Ohh Upasna you just made my day by saying that – thanks so much Love! I get that about the straight hair from all the peeps with frizzy or curly hair – sigh! wouldnt it be wonderufl if we could exchange our hair!!! 😉

  9. I enjoyed reading this one. I am a foodie too and love to host parties for my family and friends. Nose ring collection sounds interesting as I used to wear a nose ring during my college days. I don’t wear too many sarees but like to buy them too. Thanks for linking up with #TT.

    1. Thanks Preethi. I am in shock over it actually. I posted it last night at 11 pm. Was just writing away and then realised the linky will close. Can’t believe everyone loved it. Should write more often when I am sleepy

  10. Your quirks sound lovely. I love good food and colourful cloths. I’m not too keen about nose rings. But that’s just my quirk. I’m quite quirky, too.

    Lily

  11. All these characteristics makes you endearing… Your hair is my dream… How can you not like it and as for hostess I wish you were my roommate I love being fed
