The Anonymous Bookaholic Tag for book lovers

I was tagged by a fellow bookaholic Ellie for this fantastic question game on books and she got it from A Bookish Chick. Do check out their websites for some awesome book recommendations.

I do love me some silly bookish stuff and this one was just up my alley. I think some of my favorite fellow reviewers would love to and should get into doing this with me. What say – Soumya, Sanch, Tulika and Nabanita ?

1) What do you like about buying new books?

I generally end up buying books because the pretty cover led me to the temptation. Especially love the cover graphics and fonts plus a cool color scheme – they never fail to not hook me. I love clicking some chic pics of the new book and then uploading it on Instagram to show it off in all its bookish glory.

2) How often do you buy new books?

♣ Currently I have been on a No-Book-Buying pact and been shamelessly begging friends and family to gift from my wish list for birthday, Secret Santa, etc. Other than that I would buy books as and when one would catch my bookaholic eye.

This month I cheated on my pact by buying me these two books; blaming it totally on the pandemic for this breach!

And these two lovely books were sent as a birthday gift by Soumya this month – so I am richer by 4 books!!!!!

3) Bookstore or online book shopping: which do you prefer?

♣ Oh definitely online shopping now as I tend to over buy in a shop as I am tempted by them all. So I end up buying without actually going through them or checking out a few reviews first. Online lets me do that and also keeps my buying spree in check.

Though I have to confess I miss hanging out at bookshops as I feel they are the mother ship for a bookaholic like me.

4) Do you have a favorite bookshop?

♣ I used to have a few favorite some years back but since have been on a no buying thing, haven’t visited one in the longest time. If I am pushed to list one, I would definitely call out the Chapter 101 for being such an Art Nouveau kinda bookshop and if you head to the post, you would understand why so!

Intrigued? Pin it for later!

5) Do you pre-order books?

♣ Oh god no. The suspense kills me as I am so low on patience and a control freak on top of that too. I just pretend that I don’t know the book anymore and wait it out by ignoring the siren call. Twice in my life the wait was just too much for me – Once for the book #4 of Harry Potter and then the latest one by Erin Morgenstern – The Starless Sea. But even then, there was no pre-ordering by me.

6) Do you have a monthly buying limit?

♣ Normally its 2-3 books but now that Kindle and Audible are a cheaper option, the number would go up as I would pay the monthly subscription rates for these services and indulge my bookaholic sweet tooth.

7) How big is your wish list?

♣ Oh my god please dont go there. I have hundreds of books on my Amazon Wish List, Good reads to read section and then the unread ones physically on my bookshelves at home. This is the reason for the pact I signed up with myself since three years now. The plan is to first finish the ones on my bookshelves and then only buy new ones. But then I get “gifts” and recently I gave into the Covid induced brain coma and bought two books to cheer myself up. And I always bookmarking the ones I love when I read the reviews from my favorite book reviewers. So the wish list is never ever ending!!!!

8) Which three books from your wish list do you wish to own right now?

♣ Only three? Sigh – where do I even begin? I think I will list one book that’s not been written/published yet but is a sequel to one I read and loved immensely ( The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker ) and I am waiting for this one with bated breath.

  • The Iron Season by Helene Wecker
  • The Island at the End of Everything by Kiran Milwood Hargrave
  • Children of Virtue and Patience by Tomi Adeyemi Thanks so much Soumya for being so prompt in fulfilling my wish!!!!

^ In case you are thinking of buying a book for me, then please let it be one of these (Hint wink ) ^
