Warzlement – 10 fabulous book-to-screen adaptations

Warzlement

Warzlement is an old dialect word for sycophantic flattery or wheedling/persuading language. I just loved the oomph of this word and decided to use it to profile out the most fabulous book-to-screen adaptations that I can’t get enough of.

Book-to-screen adaptations is the most obvious and sincerest form of flattery in appreciation of the awesomeness of the tale. It’s quite an uphill task to render the book into a screenplay and stick to the storyline’s originality. Actors must be chosen with care to enact the much-loved characters from these tales, which is an onerous job. Then come the sets and the dialogue for the entire plot. All of it has to reflect the book perfectly and 7/10 times the movie fails to be true to the book’s essence.

But there have been some marvelous adaptations and I am in awe of such cinematic efforts. Sharing the top 10 such movies based on books that were perfect for me. There are tonnes of movies based on books which I have liked but I have not read the book for those. So only sharing the ones where I have gone through both versions.

P.S:

I think this is the shortest post for this challenge and probably in my previous challenges too 😉

Intrigued? Pin it for later!

For the uninitiated, AtoZ challenge is a blogging challenge wherein one has to write on every alphabet from A to Z and post on all days of April, except Sundays. Usually its better to devise a theme as it makes it easy to write the posts. Plus readers have a reason to stay hooked too.

  1. I loved most of the films mentioned here that are based on books. I haven’t seen The Book Thief, Big little lies and Chocolat. I want to watch those. The ones you mentioned in the second list are amazing choices, Shalz! I need to watch The Reader and Water horse. I haven’t read the books, but I would love to watch those films. I also enjoyed Charlie and the chocolate factory. The book was better. 🙂

    1. The Reader is hauntingly beautiful and I urge you to watch it as soon as you can. The movie is done so so well and the story is heart breaking. After you watch it, I want to chat with you about it pls.

  2. I recently watched A Man Called Otto and loved it. They did Americanize it but it was a good adaptation. I never really warmed up to Twilight. Will give it another go. Need to catch up on your A2Z posts. Have fallen behind.

    1. I loved it and have watched it twice already. Tom Hanks is simply amazing. Twilight was absolutely stunning for me and I watch it whenever I am feeling blue 😉
